Double Size turnout good despite move to morning

Andy Swingle's Medieval Germans, left, and Bob Boggs'
Later Romans prepare to clash in the center
One of the changes we made this year was to move the 15mm Double Size
DBA Tournament to Thursday morning, instead of Thursday evening. It was
showing a tendency to run over its time slot, which made its finish time
pushing past 11 pm instead of the scheduled 10 pm. So, I thought it would
work better early in the day.
This tournament is a quicker playing version of a BBDBA Tourney features
armies of 24 elements divided into two commands, rather than 36 in three.
This year, I had to call only one game on time (1.5 hours) -- the rest seemed
to finish pretty much in the allotted time. Last year, there had been a
number of games that ended up "ties". Initially, I was even thinking
of getting rid of the format itself, but the players protested. The 24-element
BBDBA format seems popular. Moving it from Thursday PM to AM lost only two
players over last year.
The winners was: Tom Graves, Seleucid
- 1. Tom Graves, Seleucid, 3-0, 65 points
- 2. Kevin Serafini, Ayyubid Egyptian, 2-0-1, 55 points
- 3. Jason Stelzer, Anglo-Norman, 2-1, 58 points
- 4. Dylan Fraser, Kushite Egyptian with Libyan Egyptian Allies,
2-1, 54 points
- 5. Greg Crane, Later Hungarian with Later Polish Allies, 2-1,
42 points
- 6. Mike Stelzer, Kushite Egyptian, 1-2, 53 points
- 7. Andy Swingle, Medieval German, 1-2, 40 points
- 8. Jenny Torbett, Later Hoplite Greek, 1-2, 20 points
- 9. Ted Bender, Aztec, 0-2-1, 41 points
- 10. Bob Boggs, Later Imperial Roman (East), 0-3, 10 points
