The field of a dozen players at Pro or Con 2008

The field of a dozen DBA players at Pro or Con 2008

The Early Period DBA Event at PentaCon drew eight players

"Kids rule!" at Pro or Con

by John Lawitzke

At Pro or Con, I had 12 players for a three round event. There was a good mix of newbies, novices, and experienced players. I had five new players attend DBA school. This turned out to be an event which the newbie juniors absolutely ruled. There were three junior players and two of them ended up fighting it out for the championship. One thing that I've noticed is that new players end up doing fairly when they borrow my Norse Viking army. The championship game in this event ended up being a Scandinavian civil war as it was Norse Viking versus Medieval Swedish.

Unfortunately, this event ended up running long on me and four players couldn't stay for the final round. Somehow, between running a DBA school and letting people play out games, I ended up practicing poor time management. My apologies to the players who needed to drop out after the second round. That's why you'll see some people with only two games in the results table.

The Pro or Con staff always puts on a great convention. They also make everyone feel very welcome and treat their GMs well. I was surprised when they gave me some medals to hand out as prizes for my event. I'd like to thank them for that and the publicity which they give to my event. I know that contributes to my player base there.

Thanks to everyone who came out to play at Pro or Con this year and I hope to see you at Battlefields and Pro or Con next year.
