GM Marty Schmidt observes as Matt Beaty, left, and Titch White close to contact

'Southern Flair' added to Matched Pair tourney in '08

The long row of tables with A Bracket on the right and B Bracket on the leftMarty Schmidt, the man who runs most of the DBA tournaments in Florida, made the trip up to Origins this year and was kind enough to run the Thursday evening Matched Pairs tourney. He was ecstatic with the turnout -- 20 players -- and his style of running things went quite smoothly (so smooth, in fact, that I will copy it next time I run a Matched Pairs event!).

Marty attempted to divide the players into "locals" and those who don't play the locals that often, which is a nice touch. We had quite a few players from out of town, but a good chunk were regular DBAers from the region, so they ended up on both sides. Nevertheless, everything worked out great. Side A ended up with two undefeated players, so points were used to determine a winner. Side B had only one undefeated -- in fact, only one player above .500 winning percentage!

Here are the final results...and thanks again to Marty for running the event and giving me a chance to play!
