We had 12 players in this year's Origins 15mm Double Size DBA Tournament. Although it may seem odd at first glance, the breakdown of armies went nicely into an Early group of eight and a Later Bracket of four. The Later Bracket played a "round robin," essentially, while the earlier one matched winner vs. winner to determine a champion. There was only one undefeated in the tournament, and that was Marty Schmidt -- up from Florida to try out the DBA at Origins -- with his Later Carthaginian army in the early bracket. It was a close shave in the later bracket, as Jon Crane edged out two other 2-1 players to win his division.
Games ran pretty much on time, with about 1:30 to 1:45 per round. The games that were slowed down were mainly due to terrain clogging up the battlefield. However, you can't blame generals whose armies are tailored to fight in difficult terrain for wanting to have a "home field advantage!" Although the Thursday morning start tends to restrict the number of players as compared to the evening events, the Double Size remains a popular and fun part of DBA at Origins.
