Battles from History nets its first repeat tournament winner

Players study the matchups in Battles from History action

Players study the army matchups in Battles from History action at Origins on Saturday

The Battles from History DBA Tournament once again staged 8 historical battles in DBA format. This time, though, we had our first repeat winner -- Mike Stelzer. Thanks to Terry Hollern for taking over the full running of this tournament in 2007. Terry introduced two new battles this time around, Panion and Lechfeld. Here are some of his comments:

"Mike Stelzer becomes the first two-time champion. Jason Stelzer finishes third while being outscored 18 to 22. This is the result of losing to his father 0-11 at Mantinea in the third round. Gunter and Uwe Eichert finish tied with equal records and points. Gunter edges his father on the last tie-breaker, head-to-head record, with a win at Crimisus in the third round.

Six of the ten players entered play in the final round with a chance to win the tournament. Mike Stelzer could have lost the final round, scored no points and still could have won the tournament due to his 24 points scored in the first three rounds. I received much praise on my choices for Panion and Lechfeld. They will both return." -- Terry Hollern
